410 Non-Wing Sprint Car Racing is deeply embedded in the fabric of Indiana motorsports. Many drivers relocate to the Hoosier state to pursue their racing dreams, drawn by the strength of the 410 Non-Wing Sprint Car scene—and among them is Trey Osborne.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Trey began racing at around age 7. At 18, he decided to go all in. He packed up, moved to Indianapolis, bought a Sprint Car, and got to work chasing his dream.
Trey owns his own car and, together with his girlfriend Alayna, manages his race team. In 2025, they plan to compete in over 50 events—a demanding schedule made possible thanks to the support of sponsors like Industrial Hydraulics, Inc., Hidden Hoof Hollow Farms, and Jeff Hill Trailer Sales.
Early in his 2024 season, Trey suffered a major crash in Florida that resulted in a broken back. The injury was so severe that he lost two inches in height during recovery. When I asked Trey if the crash made him hesitant behind the wheel, he told me that his first crash after returning to racing was nearly identical—but this time, he walked away unscathed. “It gave me assurance that I healed properly. In general, I feel no hesitation and still have plenty of drive to pilot these cars,” he said.
In 2024, Trey entered the inaugural Hoosier Hustle at Montpelier Motor Speedway, a $3,000-to-win event. He felt confident going in, having previously picked up a win in a Kenyon Midget at the track. His night started strong—he set fast time overall and won his heat race. Due to an inversion, he started 6th in the feature but found a fast groove running the cushion—where no one else had dared go. He made his way to the front, but a poorly timed caution bunched up the field, setting up a thrilling battle of sliders with Rylan Gray. Trey ultimately finished a respectable 3rd—short of the win he wanted, but the race was a crowd-pleaser.
When asked about the state of the Non-Wing Sprint Car class, Trey is optimistic. “There are a lot of cars and new drivers in Indiana—and lots of good racing,” he said. He also emphasized the uniqueness of the 410 Non-Wing Sprint: “It has a ton of horsepower, no downforce, and it’s super lightweight. There’s no other form of racing like it. Combine that with the inherent danger, and you’ve got a very entertaining form of racing!”
Trey plans to race at Montpelier Speedway as often as possible in 2025 and is aiming to return for the Hoosier Hustle on September 13.
